High + Low: Why Fine Jewelry Belongs in Your Everyday Wardrobe

There’s a fashion rule I’ve always loved breaking: save the good jewelry for a special occasion. Why wait?

A diamond tennis necklace shouldn’t live in a jewelry box until the next wedding. A beautiful pearl strand shouldn’t be reserved for holidays. And your favorite diamond ring certainly doesn’t need a cocktail dress to feel at home.

For me, every day is the occasion.

This fall, I’m especially drawn to the contrast of high and low: mixing fine jewelry and beautiful statement pieces with the clothes I actually live in. Think diamond tennis bracelets with leggings and sneakers, layers of pearls with jeans and a simple tee, or diamonds and gold paired with a silk dress and a great pair of boots.

The result feels polished without feeling precious.

Diamonds + Leggings + Sneakers

One of my favorite ways to wear fine jewelry is with something completely unfussy. A pair of Lululemon leggings, a workout top, and sneakers suddenly feels entirely different when you add a diamond tennis necklace, diamond rings, or a stack of bracelets.

The jewelry doesn't make the outfit feel overdressed; it makes the everyday pieces feel intentional.

And that's really the point: fine jewelry is meant to be worn.

Pearls + Denim + A Great Jacket

Fall is made for pearls. Try layering a classic freshwater pearl strand with a gold necklace, then throw on your favorite jeans, a simple white or black tee, and a beautifully tailored jacket. My go-to right now is any Max Mara jacket.

Pearls have a wonderful way of making casual pieces feel elevated while still looking completely effortless. And you don't have to stop at one strand. Layer different lengths, mix pearl shapes, or pair them with gold for a little more personality.

Pearls are also one of the easiest pieces to take from day to night. The same necklace you wear with jeans and a tee can be worn with a silk dress for dinner.

Fine Jewelry + Silk + Boots

Then there are those fall days when you want to lean into a little more glamour.

A satin or silk dress, layered gold necklaces and pearls, and a pair of Back at the Ranch boots is one of my favorite combinations. The contrast is what makes it work: something feminine and luxurious paired with something distinctly western and unexpected.

This is where jewelry can really transform an outfit. You don't need a complicated look when the details are beautiful.

Why I Spend More On My Jewelry Than My Clothes

Here's my approach to building a wardrobe: spend more on the pieces you'll keep than the pieces you'll wear out.

Trends come and go. Jeans fade. T-shirts get replaced. The perfect jacket eventually has its season.

But a beautiful diamond ring, a strand of quality pearls, or a well-made gold necklace can stay with you for decades. They can become part of your signature style, be passed down, and carry memories with them.

That's why I think of fine jewelry as a lifetime investment.

I'd rather wear a $5,000 diamond necklace with a $100 pair of leggings than spend $5,000 on an outfit I'll only wear a handful of times.

The luxury is in the jewelry. The clothes simply give it somewhere to go.

Not Everything Has to Be Fine Jewelry

That doesn't mean every piece you wear needs to be a major investment.

I also love mixing fine jewelry with more affordable pieces, especially when I'm experimenting with a new trend or simply want something fun for everyday wear. That's one reason I love The Pearl Shop. The collections offer genuine pearls and thoughtfully selected jewelry at a more accessible price point, making it easy to incorporate pearls into your everyday wardrobe.

For example, the Horseshoe Baroque Pearl Drop Earrings would be beautiful with a fall wedding guest dress or an evening look, while the Horseshoe Tahitian Pearl Earrings would be such a gorgeous choice for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any festive fall gathering. Both bring that special-occasion feeling without requiring a special occasion.

And that's really what I want my jewelry collection to reflect: pieces that work for real life.

My Challenge To You

This fall, try looking at your wardrobe a little differently. Take the pieces you wear on repeat (your leggings, jeans, white tees, sweaters, sneakers) and add the jewelry you'd normally save for later.

Layer the pearls. Put on the diamonds. Stack your bracelets. Wear the gold.

Because the best jewelry isn't the jewelry you admire sitting in a box. It's the jewelry that becomes part of your everyday life.

Every day is the occasion.
